Happy Birthday, Aidan Quinn -- and Welcome Back, Jack!

It's March 8, which means it's Happy 52nd Birthday, Aidan Quinn!

The first time I saw Aidan Quinn was in Legends of the Fall, and I was impressed. He held his own against a Brad Pitt who, for the first time in his career, had been allowd off the leash. In retrospect, we know all about what a Brad on the rampage is capable of, and Aidan was admirable in the part of the elder brother ... more sane, more stable, competing for the hand of the lovely Julia Ormond, and not really succeeding. Though, the fact is, in real life ... welllll, I think he would have. Not that Brad's character wasn't amazing, but I think Julia's character would have opted for Aiden's character, and a long, peaceful life! And why not? Because we're talking about tasty, here ... seriously tasty!

I think the next one I saw was probably Benny and Joon, with Johnny Depp, and I'll always remember Practical Magic, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. In Benny and Joon, Aidan went up against Johnny Depp in full-on "cute as a bug" mode, and was terrific; and in Practical Magic he had the sanest, most normal, least outrageous ... and nicest of all the characters to play, which was quite a challenge. Go up against that cast and be visible? Neat trick, if you can do it -- and what's more, he did!




So, Happy 52nd to Aidan, and many more of them.

Film Kartun Paling dikangenin

Ghost at School

Kangeeen banget ama anime satu ini.. haha.. dulu ditampilin di TV 7 setelah magrib. Jadi inget beberapa cerita seremnya.. banyak cerita-ceritanya yang masih gw inget sampai sekarang.. gw inget cerita tissue merah dan tissue biru, pengendara motor tanpa kepala.. haha.. filmnya kereeeen... mungkin karena waktu itu di indonesia masih jarang cerita seram yang dikemas dalam bentuk anime. Gw inget juga kucingnya yang satu matanya biru, satunya lagi kuning.. huehehe..

Magic Knight Rayearth

Tokoh favorit gue adalah Hikaru. Gue sampe pengen banget punya kekuatan api kaya dia.. Magic Knight Rayearth adalah tiga ksatria yang terpilih dari tiga sekolah yang berbeda. Mereka semua berkumpul pada saat kunjungan mereka ke Tokyo Tower. Beuhh, dulu gw pengen banget bisa punya aliansi rahasia begini.. haha.. gw pengen terpilih jadi penyelamat bumi. Haha.. 

Ada satu lagi cowo keren di anime ini, namanya Lantis. Setipe kaya Tuksedo bertopeng, Lantis juga punya gaya cool sedingin kulkassss.. Lantis ikut jadi salah satu kandidat raja di negeri Zephyr, ato begitulah ceritanya, ko gw lupa yee.. (penulis mulai aneh). Tapi gue suka sama tokoh satu ini.. ternyata dia bisa bijak walopun dalam cerita ini kakaknya, yang juga musuh mereka, udah dibunuh sama Hikaru, tapi dia tetep bisa baik sama hikaru, bahkan  endingnya dia suka sama Hikaru. (yahh.. diambil aja deh semuanya ama hikaru.. *apa siiiiii)

Remi

Inget ga? Dulu se Indonesia rame banget ngomongin kacamata 3D? Beuhh.. sampai-sampai kacamata 3D jadi oleh-oleh wajib orang tua seantero jagad sepulang kerja, kacamata 3D jadi bahan pamer anak-anak kecil, hahaha.. padahal juga hasilnya ga beda pake kcamata ato engga.  Hahaha.. masa kecil memang menyenangkan ya? 

Cerita yang ini lebih dewasa.. konfliknya lebih rumiit.. wahh udah kaya sinetron deh pokoknya. Kepisah sama orang tua.. masuk ke sirkus.. yang punya sirkus meninggal.. dia ketemu ibunya.. ibunya nyari anaknya padahal udah sempet ketemu. Beuhh.. tapi emang kadang anak-anak musti diajarin bahwa hidup tuh penuh perjuangan. Nahh.. ngerti kan adik-adik? Hehe..

Sailormoon

Siapa siii yang ga tau Sailormoon?? Ga cewe.. ga cowo sukaa semua. Gw inget Sailormoon mulai setelah gue pulang ngaji, jadi beres ngaji gw ngacir buat nonton sailormoon dan tuksedo bertopeng. Cantik cantik siiii.. walaupun memang ada temen gue yang bilang sebenarnya ini anime emang bukan buat anak-anak yang belum remaja.. (khususnya cowoo) secara rok nya mini-mini dan ceritanya tentang cinta yang terpisah. Ah gitu dehh..

Ada satu hal yang gw agak bingung dan sempat menjadi pikiran setelah gw dewasa (.telat bgt mikirnya..), beberapa personilnya, termasuk sailor Mars salah satunya pake sepatu pesta buat melawan monster-monster jahat. Beuhh.. lari pake high heels gitu cape banget pasti. Ckckc..

   Teko Ajaib

“Pidippidppidip teko ajaiiiiiiiib...” setau gue film ini diputer lagi di space toon.. tapi mungkin karena yang gue pikirin udah bukan tentang “dimana putri syalala” ato “kemana pangeran Dandan mencarinya” kali ya.. jadi gw ga pnah sempat untuk nonton.. huhuhu..

Walaupun tetap gw kangenin..  film ini tentang teko yang bisa pergi kaman aja.. si abang teko bisa bikin lobang menuju tempat lain.. seru dehh.. hoho....

PS. well... sebenarnya masih banyak kartun lain kaya Captain Tsubasa, Kitaro, Mijacko, Simba, Minki Momo, Fruit Basket.. cuma ga sempat lagi nulisnya.. penulisnya harus bikin proposal penelitian. hahaha... jadi inget dulu suka banget sama Genzo Wakabayahi di Captain Tsubasa, mpe pernah hampir mewek waktu dia kalah ngelawan Schneider di Jerman. huhuhu.. *lebay

Kelly's first single, "A Moment Like This," set a record when it went from number 52 to number one on the Billboard singles chart in one week.lagu ini emang bagus.. hehe.. liriknya daleem bgt, mungkin karena emang lagu ini sengaja dijadikan backsound nya Kelly waktu menang First Session of American Idol tahun 2002. inget banget video klipnya pas rambut dia masih sebahu trus nyanyiin lagu ini sambil duduk di pinggir kolam.. huaa.. I'm in love with this song.. I think beberapa lagu dia pas bgt dijadikan wedding song, termasuk lagu ini.. hehe..

 3. Marry You - Bruno Mars

  This song is cute.. hehehe... no need to give more explanation. huahahha...


4. Sweet Croline- Puck (Glee version)
  Gw ga pnah denger yang versi aslinya, tapi versi Glee ini jelas keren. haha.. This was Puck's first solo in the series. He sings it for the group after Rachel admits to Puck that she needs a man who is brave enough to sing a solo for her. In order to stay in a relationship with Rachel (because he wants to have a Jewish girlfriend) and prove to her that he can do it, Puck then sings "Sweet Caroline."

5. My Life Would Suck Without You- Kelly Clarkson
biar nikahannya rame.. lagunya juga musti rame.. hahha.. lagu ini punya meaning yang bagus.. tentang sebuah hubungan yang memang tidak akan selamanya bahagia, akan selalu ada pertikaian dan perbedaan pendapat.. namun hal ini (menurut lagu ini) jadi sebuah ke khas an tersendiri...  hoho...

its just not secret anymore.. this song was created by Justin Timberlake for Britney Spears.. Well, kenyataan berjalan kurang bagus untuk mereka berdua sepertinya.. tapi gakpapa lah yaa.. masih ada gue yang mau banget klo dikasih lagu ini. Tinggal Justinnya, mau ga nyanyiin lagu ini buat gue.. heheheh...
semua lirik di lagu ini romantis banget.. every line of its song, haha.. honestly, this just all the things that girls wanna hear, mulai syair awal, sampe akhir. beuhh.. lagu ini emang cakep banget.

Gue kaget kenapa di sampul albumnya rambut dia jadi pirang yah? hmm.. (penulis aneh, suka-suka dia lahhh) walapupun lagu ini tentang pencarian pasangan.. dan in a wedding, those bride surely already have the couple, gue sempat agak berpikir memasukkan lagu ini.. tapi well.. iramanya aja cukup oke.. knapa musti dipusingkan liriknya? hahah.. (penulis yang males mikir) 
tapi FYI, this song is amazing, lagu ini jadi debutnya Bosson, di lagu ini ada lirik yang gue jadi suka mikir2 sendiri..

lagu ini tentang mimpi.. semua juga tau pada akhirnya kita akan jadi tua, tapi itulah hebatnya kagu ini.. selain iramanya easy listening.. lagu ini juga oenuh imajinasi.. well semua lagu Lenka kebanyakan begitu.. 

and I do looove this one as my wedding song.. 

8. La La La Love Song- Toshinobu Kubota ft Naomi Campbell

berawal dari kesukaan gue sama fimnya.. "Long Vacation" lagu ini jadi sangat menyenangkan untuk didengarkan. I surely want to play this song in my wedddiiiiing.. hoho.. 

9. Unchained Melody- Gareth Gates

Sooo romantic. semua versi oke.. cuma karena versi Gareth Gates yang paling sering gw dengerin.. jadilah punya dia yang gue masukin, hehe.. tapi ga kalah bagus sama penyenyi sebelumnya.. (menurut gw), hehe.. 

10.Party For Two -Shania Twain ft Mark McGrath
Lagu ini emang agak aneh.. buat nikahan kok pestanya cuma berdua.. hahaha.. (yg aneh yang nulis kayanya..) hehehe.. lagu ini dibuat dua versi sama tante Shania, satu versi country (secara aslinya Shania juga penyanyi country) bareng sama Billy Currington, dan yang ini versi pop nya bareng vokalis Sugar Ray, Mark McGrath. Gue suka sama suara Shania Twain di lagu ini.. genit tapi enak didengernya.. hehe.. 

Naive

Many people get naive these days. It started with my family.. and then my friends. I respect them, always. It’s just a lit bit confusing when the facts that you saw are totally different with the words they say. 

Too naive to think they’re strong enough. Do not judge me that I’m not wise to handle this.. No.. I’m just look at the real fact, and do not ever cut when I’m speaking about you who likes him, you.. likes her.... or you.. get hurt.. or you again.. who feel lost. Its all normal. I never judge that you have to be perfect to face all the problems in this world. I have ever been in your way now.. i never lied to my heart that I'm weak, eventhough I always tried hard to be strong.

Sometimes we just have to show those emotions..  It doesn’t always mean that you’re weak. For me, it means that I am someone who you believe. 

well.. after all I'm happy that you can face the problems by yourself though.. it means that you can be wiser either.

Adrian Paul, back on Australia's radar (at least on this page)

I was going through boxes the other day -- trying to figure out what to chuck, to make space, because I don't live in a TARDIS (wish I did!), whaddayaknow ... so that's what happened to the Highlander paperbacks that came out in the Days of Yore, and which I used to mail order from the States because no way could you get them here.

Highlander was my favorite show back in 2000-ish, and Adrian Paul s still one of my all-time favorite actors. But when you live in this country (yeah, yeah, I come from a land downunder) you get used to living on a solid diet of A-list shows, movies and actors, because that's all the local networks buy. Anybody who isn't on the A-list will vanish off the radar. So let me see if I can do a little bit to put him back on Australia's radar!

Even for Highlander -- I used to have a mate in Canada who taped it offair for me and mailed me VHS videos, because it wasn't on here! Even now, it's not available on DVD (and before anyone leaves a comment to say, "Yes it is, it always has been," let me qualify this ... it's NOT available on Region 4 DVD, and our machines do a pretty cruddy job of playing American DVDs, which are coded Region 1, even if one could afford the high price of shipping them into the country, which -- right now, at least -- I can't).

So I lost track of Adrian Paul, big time, after about 2000, and here it is, 2011 already, and I'm wondering, "I wonder if Adrian retired?"

Ha! Good God, it's only at times like this when you realize how faaaaaar away Australia really is, and how hard you have to work (how much you have to spend!) to keep up with even the simplest little things such as, "I wonder if Adrian Paul retired?"





No, AG. The man didn't retire ... he never stopped working, he has a boatload of credits, and not only that, he still looks damned good at almost 52 (birthday = May 29).

The better question is: Why is this man not A-listed? He had the smoldery looks to blow the doors off anybody but Johnny Depp, (in fact, there's something about Christian Bale which reminds you of Adrian, and something about Adrian that reminds you of Sean Connery) plus a "weight" to his on-screen personality and performance that rivalled Brad Pitt, plus all the athleticism needed of today's action heroes, and a flair for comedy, to boot. *sigh*

So there's the answer to one question (Adrian Paul is still working, busy as a team of beavers), and another one for which there ain't no good answer, because the A-list is full of folks who have no more talent, half the looks and a quarter the athleticism. Go figure.

Anyway -- check out his IMDB list for the full catalog of credits (including Sir Francis Drake, whom he portrayed in 2009 for TV!), and here's the official site, which makes interesting viewing. Now, I'm off to work in a little while, but I'm taking an old Highlander paperback with me, and the next time I'm on a break, it'll be a blast from the past!
